Today's Best Debates

18 May 2007 12:01 pm

Ramesh Ponnuru versus Thomas Edsall on Giulianism. (I'm with Ramesh.)

Christopher Orr versus E.J. Dionne on heterodoxy and orthodoxy in the GOP. (I'm with Chris.)

Megan McArdle, on her temporary blog, versus Ezra Klein on government-mandated vacation. (I think I'm somewhere in between.)

And of course, Mickey Kaus versus immigration "reform." (You know who's side I'm on.)

Regarding the last debate, I am a liberal and I'm opposed to any guest-worker program or path to citizenship for illegals.

Stiff employer sanctions, a fence, and attrition are the only solutions. This plan is a repeat of 1986, which was a huge mistake.

Both legal and illegal immigration are being used by big business to drive down the wages of Americans.

The worst thing ever to happen to the American worker is the marriage of big business and multiculturalism.

Last year, Wal-Mart gave more money to La Raza than to any other organization. I think this says it all.

As any historian knows, a tight labor market is good for wages and innovation. Both legal and illegal immigration are nothing but tools to drive down American wages.

ever? ;-) in any case, i always tell people the reason i am a restrictionist is that i was born in a third world country but don't want to die in one. but looks like i'll have to start mulling over plan B - make sure my spot in the coming oligarchy is assured! i was born an oligarch, and perhaps i'll die one!
