All My Sons

17 Aug 2007 11:52 am

Arthur Miller's secret:

No photograph of him has ever been published, but those who know Daniel Miller say that he resembles his father. Some say it's the nose, others the mischievous glimmer in the eyes when he smiles, but the most telling feature, the one that clearly identifies him as Arthur Miller's son, is his high forehead and identically receding hairline. He is almost 41 now, but it's impossible to say whether his father's friends would notice the resemblance, because the few who have ever seen Daniel have not laid eyes on him since he was a week old.

Read the whole thing.

I guess Miller never held up that famous mirror to himself.

If that's actually your response to that story, Aaron, you need to grow up.

Thanks for the link, Ross.

Miller did nothing worse than what most parents of Downs Syndrome children do now.

He deleted his child from his life. Now we delete such children out of life entirely. Fully 90% of them are snuffed out in the womb. Not only does this prevent the ongoing inconvenience they might cause. It also prevents any embarrassment that attends those awkward personal encounters. Whew! What a face saver!

ML&J:

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm sure you don't, Aaron. Maybe if you get in a little more cuddle time with Rudy Giuliani it will come to you, though.

MoeLarryAndJesus,

In light of your high-minded response to Aaron, I wanted to post your very words on this site from a couple of days ago:

"You'll notice that among Christianists "turn the other cheek" and "let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone" and the Golden Rule never come into play. They're too busy being the rootinest, tootinest hardasses around.
So yeah, they're easy to spot. And the stench of hypocrisy is as rotten as sulfur."

Are these the reflections of a grown-up?

And to what should I compare your own hypocrisy?

There's no hypocrisy involved, torourke. I stand by those comments and I think they're perfectly valid observations about the pathetic lot of far-right wackaloon Christianists who still form the largest block of remaining Bush supporters.

I notice you don't bother to break down the supposed "hypocrisy" involved, but then such analysis is probably beyond you. Feel free to try, though. I enjoy watching that sort of thing.

Thanks for paying such close attention to my posts, in any event. I'm glad I made such an impression on you.

torourke:

ML&J is great to have around. His writing is a sort of Frankenstein's monster of liberal boilerplate. You probably noticed his use of the Andrew Sullivan coined "Christianist," and the sarcastic use of Jesus in his screen name. I presume he thinks he's some kind of iconoclast, when in fact he is the most pedestrian sort of "rebel." You can discern exactly what's going on in the liberal blogosphere by reading his comments. It is strange and fascinating. He is so angry and so obtuse, so self-righteous.

Anyway, I find it interesting.

Aaron's just upset because I made light of his man-crush on Rudy Giuliani. You see, Aaron had to sleep in a strange bed for a few days after 9/11, and Rudy helped him through that tremendous trauma.

I've adopted "Christinist" because people know what it means and my preferred "SuperChristian" seems to confuse many. In any event, these people are tumors on the body politic and I like to point that out.

Of course Aaron isn't "angry." He's a self-described "very conservative Catholic," and they're all very happy folks. Just visit any clinic picket line and bathe in their unbridled joy.

Why are you so angry (sad)? What happened to you? Seriously. What's going on, man? You have a lot of rage. And don't tell me it's related to Bush, the war or Christianists. There is something deeper at work here.

Aaron, that's pretty funny coming from someone who was so upset over a few days away from his apartment that he developed an unquenchable love for Rudy G.

I'm a very happy guy in daily life, Aaron. I like to express my appreciation for my good fortune by expressing my disgust for the halfwitted monsters you think so highly of.

It's my way of giving back. Sort of like those backrubs you give Rudy and Cheney, only not as unseemly.

Remind me what I said about Cheney? I don't remember mentioning him. Also, don't you remember me saying that I don't support Rudy? Why are you projecting? Are we talking about your Dad here?

I'm talking about you and what you said about Rudy, Aaron. Your weird and sad attempts at psychoanalysis are between you and your legion of therapists. You said you wouldn't vote for Rudy, but you will always clutch him to your bosom because he was there for you in those horrible several days when you were separated from Mr. Nightlight.

It's a stirring story and one that will move your grandchildren to tears. I have no doubt. You have suffered so much. I'm glad Rudy was there to salve your rod and your staff.

MoeLarryAndJesus,

Dude, you almost singlehandedly ruin this site. You troll every page. See, now you've ruined this thread too. Thanks.

Anything for you, Mr. Nelson.

To get back on track here, Miller's deep moral failings are distressingly common amongst left-wing types. People who express the most extravagant love for humanity writ large often treat individual humans with the most contempt. Paul Johnson devoted an entire book (entitled "Intellectuals") to just this phenomenon.

So you see, MLJ doesn't have the luxury of behaving decently toward his fellow citizens. He's too busy worrying about the Poor/Oppressed.

Yes, Freddy. Too bad I can't switch into right-wing mode so I can treat people as well as Rush, Newt, and Michael Savage do.

Uh huh.
