The article doesn't strike me as very honest--it mentions what happened to John McCain in South Carolina without acknowledging how nasty it was.
The only reason Karl Rove is considered a genius is because Washington reporters and pundits are even dumber on average than he is. His immigration obsession was obviously a stupid idea, both as policy and as politics, based on bad logic and innumeracy, but the big time media thought it was brilliant, even though when Rove and Co. put it forward in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2007, the public rejected it as bad for the country and Republicans in Congress rejected it as bad for the GOP. Four humiliating rejections -- that's a pretty flat learning curve on the Boy Genius!
Test...
OK, I didnt read that, but Superbad may be the best movie I've ever seen ever. ...except, it had the classic Apatow fat uncool kids get hot girl theme.
Ross, your yawn response to all this is pretty sad. Could you please address the fact that the man has his fingerprints all over the corruption of the justice department? Or is it cool with you when the next Democratic president has his political director start firing U.S. attorneys for not prosecuting Republicans in a manner germane to Democratic political aims? Or is this one of those scandals it is more germane for your career not to ever speak of?
I'll wait for the original, Gannon on Rove, starting Matt Sanchez as James Guckert and Timothy Bottoms as Karl Rove.
Gear up for grub with a tripleheader of pigskin, including a meeting of brothers in Dallas. Everybody knows it's been a rough year for her, but find out who else had issues

"Everyone seems to agree" that George W. Bush could never have become either Governor of Texas or President without Karl Rove pulling the strings?
George W. Bush was a likable guy with conservative credentials, a moderate image, and 100% name recognition. He was also a Republican in a state that was becoming increasingly hostile to Democrats. Lest we forget, maverick Republican Clayton Williams was leading Ann Richards in the governor's race four years earlier, and would have coasted to victory if he hadn't made a series of stupid faux pas.
In other words, it didn't take a "genius" to get George W. Bush elected Governor of Texas in 1994! Almost any halfway decent campaign manager could have accomplished that.
Once he was in the State House, George W. was sitting pretty. Again, look at what his strengths were: he was the governor of a large state. He was a personable guy with conservative credentials and a moderate image. He had 100% name recognition. That alone made him the obvious GOP frontrunner in 2000. It didn't take a "genius" to make him a viable contender.
Once Bush got the nomination, he won a squeaker of an election under odd, never-to-be-duplicated circumstances. He didn't win a single state that isn't normally a Republican stronghold.
I don't wish to insult Karl Rove. I really don't! He's obviously an intelligent man and a capable strategist. But when I look at all the assets George W. Bush began with, I can't see how his two extremely narrow victories over lackluster Democratic opponents prove that Rove is any kind of mastermind.
