Cat Ladies

Unlike Matt, I was familiar with the term "cougar" - a descriptor for older women on the prowl for younger men - but it's still a little weird to see it show up as a category in Mark Penn's ridiculously fine-grained typology of American voters. I thought of "cougar" as a pejorative phrase like "butterface" or "two-bagger," or at least a mildly offensive one like MILF - in other words, the sort of thing you'd hear all the time from a certain kind of guy, and absolutely never from a political consultant.

Man, i'm not nearly as hip as you, Ross--although "butterface" and "MILF" are standards in my demographic's vocabulary, I'd never heard of the cougar before.

I think HRC would do well with the cougar vote, somehow...

i thought there was a reference to 'cougar' in ocean's 13? 'butterface' i heard yesterday for the first time....

Alex, if you hadn't heard of "cougar" before, it's because you didn't watch that reality show on NBC. Then again, neither did I.

i'm not sure MILF is an offensive term at all. it seems to have taken off with my 46 year old sister's friends as a self-descriptor, or as a term of approval for anyone who is of an age but still eminently do-able. just like the fags and niggers before them, the MILFs are owning what once owned them. you go girls, etc.

absolutely never from a political consultant.

At least not publicly....

Wow, Ross, that is some impressive insulting slang term knowledge you've got there. I hope to work all three into conversation this evening.

And Tiparillo, are you casting aspersions at Dick Morris?

"the sort of thing you'd hear all the time from a certain kind of guy, and absolutely never from a political consultant."

A lot of political consultants are a certain kind of guy ...
