There are an awful lot of bad sportswriters out there (hello, Murray Chass), but there are even more dumb fans. And when a smart reporter goes up against a busload of outrageously dumb questioners in an online forum - well, that's what I call entertainment.

If you want an entertaining, smart sportswriter go with Bill Simmons, ESPN.com's Sports Guy. His mailbags are hilarious.
This chat's all right, but he seems to wind up defending the team every single time. And why take a Q if you're just going to mock it?
Anyone interested in funny criticisms of bad sports journalism should be reading FireJoeMorgan.com. Informative and entertaining.
And any list of bad sports journalists should include Selena Roberts, who wanted to tar and feather the Duke lacrosse players, and called the Colts "the Roger Federers of football" on TV last week, on the grounds that they won one championship (Federer: 12 Grand Slam titles, 12 of the last 14 every non-French ones; Indy: 1 Super Bowl). Self righteousness shouldn't be combined with stupidity like that.
Agree with Larry - I think he's wrong about the "closer" question but conveys a snark that seems to suggest he couldn't possibly be wrong.

Meh. Yes, 2/3 (at least) of the questions are dumb, some really dumb. And yes, he seems smarter than the average sportswriter. But I'd quibble with a few of the answers, and, while some of the writer's snarkiness is justified, and all of it, I suppose, "entertaining" if you like that sort of thing, some of it is really unfair and obnoxious.
IMO on the whole this looks more like an example of what's wrong with sportswriters than the converse.
