By Tyler Cowen at Marginal Revolution. His basic take is that while journalists tend to be "cosmopolitan," and thus more likely to favor free trade and free-ish migration, a mix of idealism (about government and public service) and cynicism (about corporations and corporate power) means they can't generally be characterized as right-leaning on economic issues.

so a right wing journalist would be idealistic about corporate power and cynical about government and public service? That sounds about right. It also explains why our current media environment is so pitiful. Any self-respecting reporter should be cynical about both.

Historically conservatives have opposed free trade, as they should. Free trade is destroying our economy and undermining our sovereignty. But many in the GOP have been "neoconned" on this issue.
And conservatives do and should instinctually oppose the third-world invasion of the U.S. If America becomes a third-world sewer, then nothing else will matter.
