Reihan: Bill Richardson for Senate?

04 Oct 2007 12:41 am

Yglesias says yes. I did too, but then a resident New Mexican explained to me that Tom Udall would have a better shot. We might then have two brothers, Mark and Tom Udall, in the US Senate.

Is is too much to ask for two African Americans?

P.S.- I knew they were cousins! Argh! Of course, this makes my not-so-funny gag inspired by my Muslim origins utterly obsolete.

I think Mark and Tom Udall are actually first cousins. Both are also second cousins with Gordon Smith.

I don't know that I would say that Udall has a better shot than Richardson absolutely, but I would say that Richardson won't run and doesn't have any incentive to run. Given that, Udall is your best bet.

Tom Udall would be a terrific Senator. Not as handsome as his cousin Mark, but a better politician.

TOM IS MARK'S FIRST COUSIN.

I think Richardson MUST continue his fight for the Presidency; HE IS DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB IN FACILITATING THE END OF THE IRAQ WAR!!!!

As a Northern New Mexican, I say this: Udall has my vote and full support for the U.S. Senate. He's the best for the job, and he could beat Heather Wilson. No one else could.

I don't see New Mexico ever becoming completely blue, however. Y'all ever been to Hobbs, New Mexico or Texico, right on the border?
Our Eastern tier is called Little Texas, mostly by politicians and pundits, for good reason. Truly,
