More to the point, those who are pro-choice do not delude themselves into thinking anything about whether fetuses are human. They only believe that determination is not the state's to make.
Freddie: I'd be willing to guess that Ponnuru lays his argument out in more detail in his book. Consider the audience for the piece Ross linked to -- it's in the Human Life Review. Ponnuru was, quite literally, preaching to the choir in that piece.

Once again, we have the phenomenon of anti-abortion proponents arguing through assertion. Within the first page Ponnuru says that those who are pro-choice "delude" themselves into thinking that fetuses are not human. But he offers no reason why that is a delusion. Again and again, abortion foes say things like "it is obvious that" or "it is plain that". But it is not obvious or plain, and saying so is not logically compelling. Enough justification through assertion.
