I Am Donald Sutherland

I should note that we've also posted the audio from a West Virginia University panel on "Digital Media and the 2008 Election" on iTunes. The event featured Matt and myself, among other luminaries, and it inspired John Cole, in attendance, to remark:

Ross reminded me less of a conservative writer than he did a sociology teacher who sleeps with his students. Think Donald Sutherland in Animal House.

Maybe I should reconsider the beard-tweed combination.

Can you link to the actual mp3, rather than the iTunes store, for those of us on work computers who don't have iTunes?

I've slept with many people that Ross hasn't.

This is because

I am
Ross Douthat's Hair

and I am semi-autonomous.

If you are Donald Sutherland then that guy who plays Jack Bauer is a lot younger than he looks.

Young conservatives trying to dress like old men are lame.

Exhibit no. 1: Tucker Carlson

It would be much more interesting, and much better for the future of conservatism, if young conservatives would (a) try to dress their age and (b) try to actually look a little dangerous, rather than neutering themselves with accessories like bowties, or sweater vests with diamond patterns.

Ross, you're not a bad looking fellow. If you're going to keep the facial hair, I'd go with some kind of Johnny Depp look. Maybe not a pirate, but something raffish and exciting.

please post the mp3 direct link, ross.

Is your other car an M4 Sherman tank and you occassionally bark "woof woof woof"?

Just finished reading the excellent April 2008 article:

"The Return of the Paranoid Style"

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200804/iraq-movies

Excellent. Along with "24", you should have mentioned the CBS series JERICHO - just recently cancelled after it too went the Iraq route. It was just like the Iraq movies, except that Kansas was a stand in for Iraq. It had a super evil corporation Jennings and Rall that was obviously Halliburton - responsible for the nuking of 23 American cities. A military contractor Ravenwood which was really Blackwater USA that went around shooting deaf girls and innocent civilians. And a version of Abu Graib/Gitmo. One of the plot leaders (DHS guy named Valente was the obligatory Dick Cheney lookalike. And of course the capital of their newly created country (states west of Mississippi) was located in Cheyenne WY - Cheneys home state. There was a President Tomarchio who was a vapid younger version of Geroge Bush who said things like "God Bless the Allied States of America!!" And fans of that show still wonder why it lost 25% of its audience and ended up cancelled.

An article on the TV show angle, featuring JERICHO and "24" would be nice. Battlestar Galactic Season 3 also did the Iraq Shuffle and ratings tanked. For "24" its rumored the upcoming Season 7 will feature [drum roll please]... EVIL CORPORATIONS !! Jericho was a real tragedy since Season 1 of that show was actually pretty good. Some think CBS deliberately sank JERICHO knowing going all Iraq would alienate its more conservative viewers.

Maybe I should reconsider the beard-tweed combination.

Never cave in to the player-haters, Ross. Most young conservatives would be compared to either Flounder or Niedermayer. You're clearly doing something right.
