Move over, Redacted:

Still waiting for Ross "Stop politicizing your movie reviews" Douthat to like a movie with liberal politics....
Freddie, you don't have to be a conservative to think that this movie looks awful. I dislike just about everything about the Iraq war but this movie looks absurd. Hillary Duff? Why didn't they even call it Iraq? And what's with Ben Kingsley's terrible accent?
What an insightul flick. Another contribution to "the debate" = the far-left conspiracy monologue. I'd say, "Move over Michael Moore!"
Has anyone actually seen the movie yet? If it has Marisa Tomei in it I for one will give it the benefit of the doubt. Also judging from the trailer, the film doesn't strike me as actually all that "left wing", at least not in a serious way. It seems to be more of an SNL, let's mock authority figures kind of satire. Most of the anti-war Juan Cole/Michael Moore crowd will probably not embrace this film because it doesn't take America's "crimes" seriously enough or treat the locals with respect. I think for many on the left Iraq is something you don't use for fun - it's only supposed to shock and appall us. Comedy that mocks the absurdity of it all defuses outrage, and the left doesn't want that.
You are correct, sir, but perhaps understated. This is not the worst Iraq movie ever -- or at least not only the worst Iraq movie ever -- but it is blatantly terrible -- PERIOD. The question then becomes: Why waste our time by posting it.
This may indeed be awful - though I wouldn't say so definitively from the trailer - but why shouldn't the the massive absurdities of our Iraq misadventure lend themselves to satire? An Iraq-era "MASH" is waiting to be made.
I actually laughed at some of the jokes in the preview....which doesn't usually happen. Agree with jm, the absurdity of Iraq is a ripe topic for satire. I'll probably go see it in the theaters.
Redacted (didn't see it) seemed self serious. This seems absurdist. Big difference. If this doesn't do well in the theaters, I'll be surprised. Bet it will be big at Blockbuster too.
Well if the movie is funny the denizens of the blogosphere will probably be the ones people to get the joke. Too many bloggers are either rabidly pro-war or rabidly anti-war, and both factions see Iraq as a sacred cause in its own way that can't be made fun of. It will probably do just fine at the box office, and be a lot more entertaining than "21."
That's a joke, right? This isn't an actual movie, right? The last scene in the preview seems in REALLY poor taste. How many people have been beheaded on videotape? And they're cracking jokes about it? Shameful.

What a bad, weird non-sequel sequel to the great Gross Pointe Blank.
