The Way Things Ought To Be

Yes, it stars Shia LaBeouf. But that aside, Eagle Eye sounds and looks the kind of mindless-but-fun action movie that used to make me (and this guy) look forward to summer.

Naturally, it's being released in the fall. For the Fourth of July weekend, we're getting Will Smith as a drunken superhero instead.

I think Hancock looks fun. And I don't think you can say "Shia LaBeouf... aside" as a way of making this another entry in your argument that superhero movies are unfairly pushing out better entertainment. Will Smith is one of the best in the business at attracting crowds to huge summer blockbusters. Shia LaBeouf is... Shia LaBeouf. Spielberg seems to like him a lot more than the movie-going public does. I liked Disturbia, but let's not get carried away.

Do you (i.e., Ross) really say "drunken" and not "drunk"?

Sometimes I think going to a movie with Ross would be like a trip to the dentist with cavities.

So you think that Hancock looks like another one of those lamentable superhero movies that just bores you to death. But you are not placing the movie in the right context.

Here we have Hancock, a man of limitless potential, wasting away on the bottle, and not fulfilling his destiny. He becomes humbled, and starts to believe in his superpowers. Hmmm. . . . Superpowers, Higher Powers(???); Hancock starts to believe in a Higher Power. Religion!!! granted its not as subtle as a f*cking talking lion, but the religious context is undeniable. Once he puts faith in his "higer power(s)" he begins to save the world.

So we have a drunk, who started to believe in a Higher power, who then gets on the path of righteousness and saves the world. My God, Hancock is an allegory for George W. Bush!!! And this silly superhero movie reaffirms your faith in God. Sounds like a summer blockbuster!!! Even though it does not have a talking lion

Hm?

If you are going to be a grammar troll, then you have to get it right.

Ross did not "say" drunken he "wrote" the word. Even someone of your grammar abilities would be able to recognize the difference between saying and writing.

What's wrong with Shia LaBeouf? If you have kids or a younger sibling, watch Even Stevens with them.

I was actually pleasantly surprised that he was able to make into the big time. Indy 4 was atrocious, but I didn't think LaBeouf was responsible for any significant amount of its suckage.

I don't have a big problem with LaBeouf. He's a decent actor, I just don't think he's a leading man who will attract a lot of people to a movie.

True. In the words of the immortal philosopher Beavis "You can't polish a turd".
